In Bullinger’s day he felt that there was too great an emphasis on what Jesus said and did when He was on earth, as compared with the revelations He gave, through His Holy Spirit, to the apostles after he had risen from the dead and ascended into heaven.
It may be the same today as when many think of Jesus they see Him as He ‘was’; roaming the hills of Galilee and striding the streets of Jerusalem. It is true that we want – we need – to know what He did and taught when He was on earth. However, following His crucifixion and burial, He rose from the dead, ascended into heaven, was glorified and is ‘now’ seated at the Father’s right hand. This is Jesus today. This is the Jesus we should relate to.
