Galatians: Interpretation & Application by Michael Penny

In this book the author’s comments fall into two categories: historical and practical.

First he brings Galatians to life by considering the historical interpretation of each passage. Then, once that has been established, he has applied the teaching of that passage to Christians today.

It is important that we understand first what these writings meant to the people to whom they were initially written, before we seek to apply them to ourselves. If we do not do this, then we are in danger of misapplying the Scriptures.

The Prayers of Ephesians

There are two long prayers in Ephesians 1:15-23 and 3:14-21. In the former prayer the subject is Christ, and what God has made Him to be to His people. In the latter prayer it is Christ, and what God has made us to be in Him.

In the former it is - we in Christ. In the latter it is - Christ in us.

In the former it is God’s power which He wrought in Christ. In the latter it is the Father’s power that works in us.
